Abrasion classes and wear layer

for vinyl flooring

What does the abrasion class mean for vinyl floors?

Location
31
32 Living room, hallway
33 Commercially strong Entire private residential area and commercial
34 Very strong commercially
The table shows the most common abrasion classes that are commonly found on the market for vinyl flooring. But what does the abrasion class actually mean?

Does the abrasion class have anything to do with scratch resistance?
No, even if many manufacturers and publishers like to suggest this. The test used to classify the abrasion class is a "gyroscope" that circulates on the surface at a constant speed. The longer it takes to penetrate the surface, the higher the abrasion class is defined. This classification has nothing to do with scratch resistance.
This classification also only says something to a limited extent about durability, since certain types of damage would damage the vinyl floor regardless of the abrasion class of the vinyl. Think, for example, of holes caused by a falling object.

Is a vinyl floor with abrasion class 34 indestructible?
No, of course not. Even though vinyl floors can generally be described as hard-wearing, even vinyl floors with abrasion class 34 can be damaged.

Example of a durable vinyl floor:

What role does the wear layer play in vinyl flooring and what types are there?

Wear layer
0.3mm 31
0,55mm 32,33 commercial
0,7mm commercial
